What to ask before buying a pre-owned phone

A practical way to review condition, functions, and the complete offer.

Ask for evidence of the condition

Separate cosmetic wear from functional checks. Ask about display response, cameras, charging, connectivity, controls, and available battery information. Confirm account locks are cleared and record the exact device configuration in the offer.

Keep the offer attached to the checks

Record the exact phone model and storage alongside the stated cosmetic condition, functional checks, included accessories, and applicable terms. Ask which limitations are known and whether they affect your intended use. If two offers have different battery condition or accessories, record that difference before comparing their prices. A checklist helps you question a specific offer; it is not evidence that every listed device passed the same checks.

Your checklist

  • Condition and configuration
  • Functional checks
  • Account setup and written terms
